Matt Reynolds
6’6” 310 pounds
Offensive Lineman- Left tackle
Although Matt comes from a huge football family, he didn’t start playing until he was in 7th grade. His football career started off a little rocky, one coach actually told him that he should probably quit football and just stick to basketball! Luckily, he didn’t take that advice and went on to start on the Timpview High School varsity team as a freshman. (It’s not often you find a 6’5” 250 pound athletic 15 year old!) Throughout his high school career he played defensive end, tight end, and of course left tackle, which is what he plays now at BYU. His heart has always been with the O-line.
Matt has grown up loving BYU football. His dad played at BYU as an offensive lineman and went on to the NFL where he played for the Eagles and the Stealers before returning to BYU to coach. He has been coaching for the Y Matt’s entire life and is the current tight end coach now. His two older brothers Lance and Dallas also played for BYU before going on to the NFL and his little brother Houston is currently playing on the team as an O-Lineman with Matt.
Anyone who knows Matt knows that he loves to go jet skiing and boating with family and friends, he will play x box with his brothers any chance he can get, he loves to eat especially if it is steak, he could quote Nacho Libre from start to finish, he collects coins, he can out-juggle the best of the best, he loves spending time with me and our daughter Lucy, he served a mission to Germany and loves speaking in German with his little brother who also served there, and he may seem quiet but is actually a huge goof ball.
Matt and I are both from Provo Utah and are lucky enough to have both of our families here for love and support. At almost every game Matt has his mom, older sister, older brother and sister-in-law, a mother and father-in-law, 2 sister-in-laws, 2 brother-in-laws, and a very proud wife cheering him on. That’s not to mention his Dad coaching up in the press box, his brother watching from Philly, and his little brother down on the field. It is a great thing to be supported by so much love and we are so blessed. Matt and I have been married now for about 2 ½ years and we welcomed our sweet baby girl Lucy into our family last December. Matt is going to graduate this fall from BYU with a major in home and family living. He has hopes and dreams of continuing on with his football career in the NFL and then one day eventually becoming a marriage counselor or football coach.
It is exciting to think of the future and what it holds, but for now, Matt and I both are getting ready for yet another great football season. Go Cougars!!
